Our new employee Nomazulu Sammüller has joined the team in our Munich office and brings with her extensive experience in large scale project monitoring.
TA Europe manages several infrastructure and real estate projects around the world. Very often as countries develop and flourish economically, they refurbish their transport system to complement their growing economic status. A known side effect of economic growth is population growth as often people gravitate towards places with better financial prospects, therefore a dependable transport system is one of the key ingredients to sustainable development.
A potent case study of such development is Qatar, where Nomazulu, before she joined TA Europe as a cost manager, experienced the construction of their widely publicised Doha Metro Rail, the first of its kind in the country. The story of Qatar’s development is quite unique as the country went through a period of rapid urbanisation, since the beginning of the millennia. Once a little-known fishing country in the Arabian Peninsula, Qatar has established itself on the world stage and has been described in The Economist as a “Pygmy with the punch of a giant”. After winning its bid to host the 2022 World Cup, in 2013, Qatar began its construction of the Doha Metro Rail, which would transform public transportation in the country. Until then, the Qatar transport system was limited to private cars and the unreliable and overpriced Karwa Taxi system.
The Doha Metro Rail project is the biggest infrastructure project to have ever taken place in Qatar. The large scale, tight schedule, unique design and the number of international companies involved added to the challenge. It is for this reason that this project was the perfect job for our new employee, Nomazulu Sammüller. The project extended her knowledge of understanding large scale projects from conception to completion, but also the management of them. Having worked in the Project Controls department, Nomazulu was able to have an eagle eye view and gain intimate knowledge about what it takes to successfully execute and complete a project of that magnitude.
She is now using her experience to support TA Europe’s Munich office where she is working side by side with our specialists in cost and project management.
