What’s new?
The most significant change:
BREEAM version V6.1 was created to offer the optional possibility of displaying EU taxonomy conformity for activity 7.7 ‘Acquisition and ownership of buildings’ as part of the BREEAM certification process. The revised system version, supplemented by the requirements of the EU taxonomy, has already been made available for processing projects in the online tool.
The EU taxonomy for sustainable activities is a classification system established to clarify which economic activities are environmentally sustainable in the context of the European Green Deal. The Taxonomy came into force in July 2020 and covers activities contributing to six environmental objectives: climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, the transition to a circular economy, pollution prevention and control, sustainable use and protection of water and marine resources, and protection and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems.
The BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification system is an internationally recognized assessment methodology for the sustainability of buildings and properties. The system was developed to reduce the negative environmental impact of buildings, improve the quality of life of users and increase the value of property in the long term. BREEAM certifications not only provide confirmation of the sustainability of your property, but also allow you to precisely assess the sustainability of your buildings at every stage of the life cycle and identify potential for improvement.
Good to know:

🌍 Pending re-certifications for which the date of recertification is 31 December 2025 at the latest can still be submitted until 31 December 2025 in accordance with version V6.0.
🌍 Initial certifications that are registered for the first time from 1 January 2025 – regardless of whether the EU taxonomy is taken into account – will be assessed and audited according to the BREEAM DE/AT/CH V6.1 system version.
