- Our TA Europe 2020 Christmas donation goes to the charity Zeltschule (www.zeltschule.org).
- We want to support Syrian refugee children who lost all social infrastructure by enabling them to read, write and calculate.
- As technical advisors, we are well aware that the construction of schools is indispensable – as parents, we know how important learning is for every single child’s development.
Essen, 21 December 2020 – This year, we have done surprisingly well as a firm, considering the global crisis: We were able to work with fantastic clients and people in real estate and infrastructure. Together we successfully closed high volume deals, managed large projects, improved the value of built assets and enabled our clients to receive certain returns. Last but not least, our business grew with 6 new consultants in 2020.
“We are immensely grateful that we had a fairly good year – despite the unusual circumstances”, says Wolfgang Schlicht, CEO of TA Europe, “so we want to share with those who are having a harder time.”
In the Lebanese-Syrian border area, hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugee children live in unimaginable poverty in makeshift tent cities, without access to education.
“The generation which is supposed to rebuild the country after the war needs a perspective for their future”, says Dr Annika Neubauer, who leads the Real Estate team at TA Europe and who was the one to discover the Zeltschule a while ago, “and the charity helps them learn to read, write and calculate – which is absolutely essential for them.”
Jacqueline Flory, who founded the charity Zeltschule, is committed to providing education to these children. Her team not only builds schools but also teaches the children with the help of Syrian teachers who are refugees themselves and live in the camps.
The lessons take place in shifts so that all the children from one camp can be taught in the mostly small rooms.
Five subjects are taught: Arabic, mathematics, English, science and music. Singing and dancing together helps the children to overcome their often traumatic experiences from the war.
“As a lenders’ technical advisor, I have been working with several public private partnerships responsible for the construction and maintenance of schools in Europe”, says Sebastian Frohwann, partner at TA Europe.“For us, having access to proper schools and education is simply a given. Speaking as a father, it worries me that children could grow up without schools. I value Jacqueline Flory’s work highly, and I know that our donation is in the right hands with her and her organization.”
